SPS vs LPS vs Soft Corals

SPS (Small Polyp Stony) corals like Acropora and Montipora are the most demanding. They need intense lighting (200-400+ PAR), pristine water quality, and stable alkalinity/calcium levels. They reward experienced reefers with stunning colors and growth.

LPS (Large Polyp Stony) corals like torch corals, hammers, and brain corals are moderately demanding. They need moderate lighting (100-250 PAR), good flow, and regular feeding. LPS are great for intermediate reefers.

Soft corals like zoanthids, mushrooms, and leather corals are the most forgiving. They thrive under lower light (50-150 PAR), tolerate parameter swings, and grow quickly. Perfect for beginners.
